Dr. Carter Thorne — Newmarket, ON
Dr. Thorne completed his rheumatology training in Toronto in 1981 and has been working in Newmarket since that time. His practice is almost exclusively inflammatory diseases, with a small amount of gout and osteoporosis as well.
The office is located in a 100-year-old Edwardian house and features free onsite parking, 4 exam rooms, a full-time secretary and additional support personnel, multiple computers and uses Accuro as the EMR. Digital x-ray is available nearby, as is the local hospital.
The clinic’s team has excellent collegial relationships with our Orthopedic colleagues, an excellent Hand Program, as well as access to an Orthopod with Fellowship in ankle and foot. Additionally, Southlake has a large DI Department, with 4 Radiologists trained in MSK.
Dr. Thorne shares his clinical time at an office-based practice and out patient practice with TAP (The Arthritis Program – an interprofessional care program).
He has office hours Wednesday and Thursday 9am-5pm (with ad hoc clinics Friday afternoon) and TAP Tues 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-noon. In both venues, we are privileged to enhance patient care through the use of Rheumatology trained RN, OT and Physios (including ACPAC training).
TAP provides discipline specific services including PT, OT, Pharmacists, Social Work and Dietician. It is the site for the Early Arthritis Clinic (EAC) as well as Therapeutic Educations programs in Inflammatory Joint Disease, OA, FM and Osteoporosis
There are currently 4 full-time Rheumatologists in Newmarket, with hospital approval for a 5th and 6th. Call is weekly, and exclusively Rheumatology consultations. All Rheumatologists participate in TAP, to the advantage of their patients, with improved adherence and outcomes.
